Overview[edit]

This page is just to share some favorite programs and apps for creating good quality diagrams, generally 2D line diagrams, for use in design, such as block diagrams and flow charts.

Online Tools[edit]

The following list provides some online tools/apps for drawing design diagrams:

  • Lucidchart by Lucid Software Inc: A free version of the tool is available, has enhanced facilities available for use by university / educators. Great for quickly developing diagrams easily, and work on these collaboratively, and save saving changes instantly in the lucid cloud (basic user gets about 50MB which is enough for quite a few diagrams). Site: https://lucid.app.
  • Draw.io: https://app.diagrams.net/. Great for drawing line-drawings / block diagrams quickly and easily. Can work collaboratively. Can connect up with Google Drive easily without needing a subscription. Big advantage for those doing software design is the thorough UML diagram support that it provides.

Do you have further suggestions?? If you have ideas for other software tools for drawing diagrams please edit this page and submit a change (which our review team will inspect and approve).
