I am an academic staff member in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. Before pursuing an academic career, I worked in the field of embedded systems and automation technologies in South Africa and in Tennessee, USA, where I worked on a variety of cyber-physical systems (CPS) including radio and radar systems, communication and medical products, satellite self-diagnostic and correction systems, UAV situational awareness systems and assembly line modeling for ‘plant awareness’ and production optimization.

My current research and training involvement is involved with technologies of computer engineering, high performance embedded systems (HPEC), signal processing, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and microcontroller systems, concerning application areas of Internet of Things smart sensing technologies. My teaching focuses on embedded systems and high-performance computing. I am involved with research and postgraduate student supervision, many of which involve industry-linked projects, in these application areas.
